Chief Comcomly was one of the principle Chinookian chief's during the early period of European settlement of the Columbia River estuary, and was known to the Lewis and Clark Expedition, and the Hudson Bay Company, the Northwest Fir Company, and members of John Jacob Astor's failed fur emporium at location of present day Astoria.
