Mount Bachelor is a prominent volcanic peak located in the Central Oregon Cascades and is known primarily for its extensive recreational offerings. The mountain is home to Mount Bachelor Ski Resort, which provides a wide range of winter sports opportunities, including downhill skiing, snowboarding, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, and tubing. The resort features over 4,300 acres of skiable terrain with 101 trails suitable for all skill levels, supported by 12 lifts.
During the summer months, Mount Bachelor transforms into a hub for outdoor activities such as mountain biking, hiking, trail running, and scenic chairlift rides. The surrounding area offers numerous hiking trails that provide access to alpine lakes, viewpoints, and volcanic features. Popular hiking routes include the Pacific Crest Trail segment near the mountain and trails to the summit area.
Mount Bachelor is part of the Cascade Volcanic Arc and is classified as a stratovolcano. Its geologic formation began approximately 18,000 years ago during the late Pleistocene epoch. The mountain consists primarily of basaltic and andesitic lava flows and has experienced several eruptive phases, with the most recent activity occurring roughly 8,000 years ago. Its volcanic origins have shaped the rugged terrain and fertile soils that support the diverse ecosystems surrounding the mountain.
