Row boats for hire hover over the crystal blue waters of Clear Lake. Clear Lake was formed some 3000 years ago when the upper McKenzie River was inundated by lava originating from nearby Sand Mountain. Clear Lake has the distinction of being the source of the McKenzie River, and is itself fed by the Great Spring which gushes from cracks in the lava flow. Clear Lake is a fantastic destination for trout fishing, boating, hiking, and provides especially good viewing of fall color in Autumn. At the south end of the Clear Lake is a USFS campground, and to the north end, are rustic cabins and row boats for rent. Clear Lake Resort is a concession operated by Linn County Parks and Recreation, and is open to the public year round.
