Built in 1935 by the CCC (Civilian Conservation Corps) during the Great Depression, The Dee Wright Observatory offers excellent views of several major volcanic peaks of the Central Oregon Cascades, as well as the impressive lava fields which surround it. The Observatory is open seasonally, and is easily accessed at the east end of Scenic Highway 242 at the top of the historic McKenzie Pass.  Deschutes National Forest, Deschutes County, Oregon.
