In this photograph, it can see how the Middle Fork Willamette River has recently shifted course from the broad mouth of its previous channel, to the tumult of forcing its way through what was previously a system of side channels and riparian forest. Downstream the river seeks new equilibrium, a dynamism of braided channels, forested islands, shifting gravel bars, and the dull thud of cobble tumbling along the river bed.
