Salmon Creek  Oakridge Oregon. Autumn relinquishes its last warmth to winter frost along Salmon Creek, a headwater tributary of the Middle Fork Willamette River, just east of Oakridge. Salmon Creek flows through a region dominated by volcanic geology associated with the Cascade Range, primarily composed of basalt and andesitic lava flows, volcanic tuffs, and pyroclastic deposits. The geology reflects the region’s volcanic activity during the late Tertiary and Quaternary periods, which shaped much of the West Cascades’ rugged topography.
