A small portion of the Warner Lakes during an exceptionally wet year in 2006. The islands are in fact sage stabilized sand dunes which have formed in the empty basin of Lake Warner, which attained its maximum size between 14,000 and 18,000 years ago.
Today the Warner Lakes are increasingly empty, and in 2022, under years of increasingly severe drought, went completely dry. Some of the larger of the Warner Lakes include: Crump Lake, Hart Lake, Flagstaff Lake, Upper Campbell Lake, Campbell Lake, Bluejoint Lake, Swamp Lake, Stone Coral Lake, and Anderson Lake. The Warner Basin resides in Lake County at the western escarpment of Hart Mountain, Southeast Oregon.
