Clearwater Falls, and Clearwater Creek, being true to their name, are both crystal clear, and shockingly cold. The 29 foot drop of the falls would not be all that exceptional, except for the moss covered rocks and lush vegetation, which stand out in stark contrast with an otherwise ‘dry forest’ through which the creek flows. Located high in the Umpqua National Forest, the stream quickly gathers itself from lava tube springs and the permeable volcanic soils typical of Oregon’s High Cascades. After flowing a short distance through an open forest of Hemlock and Douglas-fir, Clear Water Creek finds its way to confluence with the North Umpqua River.
